“He was before our time, but he was ahead of his time,” said LAU President Joseph G. Jabbra, at the university’s Annual Poetry Reading Event held earlier this month at the Beirut campus, in honor of the late Jawdat R. Haydar, a prominent Lebanese centenarian poet.

In collaboration with the Embassy of Switzerland in Lebanon, LAU gathered professionals and students for a two-day symposium held March 27-28 to discuss pragmatic approaches to medical and legal translation.
“The aim of this event is to keep students up-to-date with current research and developments in the field, and to put them in touch with other students and professionals,” said Associate Professor Nuwar Diab who organized the event in collaboration with the Embassy of Switzerland in Lebanon and LAU’s Office of Development.
LAU alumnus and Emirates Computers CEO Hani Harik is the catalyst behind the university’s ongoing Innovation Challenge. “Students need to venture beyond their books and experience the thrill of creating,” he says.
The challenge, which runs from February 8 to May 22, is being hosted by the School of Engineering and calls for up to 15 multidisciplinary teams to develop solutions to real–life problems by exploring their ability to prototype designs using a variety of tools, including among others 3D printing, embedded systems and software development.
