LAU’s alumni chapter in Dubai has raised over $600,000 towards financial aid. At its annual gala dinner on April 24, attended by over 500 people, the Dubai chapter also honored Minister of Higher Learning and Education Elias Bou Saab.
Chapter president Saad El Zein said donor support made a crucial difference to the lives of underprivileged students. “The Dubai chapter continues to be loyal to our belief in the power of education and to helping making higher education possible for those who are less privileged. Ensuring that the best education possible is available to young people will contribute to a better future and a more wholesome life for our children.”
Zein and LAU President Joseph G. Jabbra then presented Bou Saab with a plaque of honor in recognition of his efforts to advance education in Lebanon. Accepting the award, Bou Saab called for additional support to institutions of higher learning, noting that “every iota of support (… ) would be invested in the right place.”
The Dubai chapter also honored Leila Saleeby Dagher for her dedicated service as president of the Alumni Association. Dagher will step down next year. “Leila has proven a tireless champion of the region’s youth, said Abdallah Al Khal, executive director of Alumni Relations. “She has demonstrated that one’s relationship with their alma mater needn’t end at graduation.”
