LAU is firmly set on a trajectory of success and renown to maintain and advance its distinguished position in a highly competitive higher education arena. This course requires that we continue attracting the best and brightest students to our campuses.
A great student body goes on to form a great network of alumni like you, which is essential to forging a high reputation for your alma mater… leading to elevating the stature of an LAU degree — your own degree — to even higher levels. It's a circle of mutual support.
To foster this growth in “intellectual capital”, we have been reshaping LAU for today’s Fourth Industrial Revolution. Merit scholarships remain the most important tool for bringing in these talented students. The number of recipients of merit scholarships has grown by 40% over the past six years, from 853 in 2013 to 1,413 in 2018. As for overall assistance, to mitigate financial hardship afflicting many of our students, we provided assistance to more than 50% of our student body by allocating over $40 million in financial aid in 2019. This amounts to around 25% of our annual operating budget.
But we need to do more. As is the case with most universities, tuition-based revenue alone is not enough to fund all of LAU's goals, and this — subsidizing education for the most promising young people — is one we hold dear.
That is where our “Alum 500” comes in to support the best and brightest students at LAU.
How to participate
“Alum 500” is an initiative designed to bring alumni closer to LAU particularly in terms of their contribution to financial aid. In simple terms, we are hoping to receive the support of 500 alumni, each of whom will commit to an annual pledge of $500.
Your participation is of utmost importance to us. It is an investment in the prosperity of LAU and the value of your own LAU degree. Please consider joining your alma mater in helping the talented youth of Lebanon attain their academic and professional dreams.
